Type Locality and Naming
Charrat Gr – fifth formation in Kohat-Margala Province (Ko-MP). Holotype section: Shahdara section. Hypo: Sur Burjianwala, Kalachitta Range. Author: M. A. Latif, 1970. Reference section: None.
Synonym: Margala Hill Limestone, Margola Hill Fm, or Morgala Hill Limestone
Lithology and Thickness
Clayey limestone. It is basically a limestone with subordinate marl and shale. The limestone is grey, weathering pale grey, fine to medium grained, nodular, medium to thick bedded and rarely massive. The marl is grey to brownish grey, while the shale is greenish brown to brown in color.
Thickness: 80-100 m. It is 100 m thick at the type section and 80 m at the reference section.

Regional extent
The formation is well developed and restricted to eastern Kohat-Margala Province (Ko-MP) in Hazara, Kalachitta. Islamabad is located in the foothills of an E-W running hill called Margala Hill that all constitutes this formation, hence the name.
